Satanic Panic and Mr. Bundy

Updated: Mar 9, 2020

Honestly, when I planned topics for this week, this wasn't one of them. Nope. I stumbled across this messed up story looking at Ghost Adventure episodes on Youtube. I might have even looked up their scariest episode or something, but regardless I found myself at 11 pm, home alone, watching this episode about Ted Bundy's ritual house. If you feel like getting scared, you should check it out.

Before we get started, here is a picture of Mr. Hades and all of his glory.

Okay, I'm going to tell the true-crime portion of this story first. It's a good base for all the messed up stuff to come.

Picture this, an abandoned house in Bountiful, Utah. If you don't know where that is, picture the suburbs. The decaying house was once occupied by Ted Bundy while he stalked and murdered 17 years old, Debra Kent, in 1974. Oh, and did I mention this is a ritual house?

Zak Bagans suggested that Bundy saught this specific house out because people were already using it to practice the occult. It's pretty creepy because this house is still standing abandoned today, and there is an entire neighborhood around it. Why is it still there? Who owns it?

Imagine living next to this place.

"Dammit, the Satanists have another ritual tonight; hope we don't die."

But seriously. If they summon something and don't do it correctly, could something attach itself to the neighboring houses? If that does happen, is there specific insurance that you can purchase for cases like this?

You might think that was dramatic, but there is a 60-page document discussing ritual crime in the state of Utah by the Attorney General Office.

Satanic panic was real, guys! They look that shit seriously. Why was that trending? Perhaps that is a story for another day. I find the whole 'satanic panic' and the occult fascinating.

Anyway, Debra Kent believed to be another victim of Ted Bundy, but he didn't confess to it until 1989, days before his execution. Bundy also claimed to of hidden her body in Fairview Canyon in Utah, but upon investigation, her body was never found. Instead, the only thing recovered at this location was a patella. Or for those of you who have forgotten high school anatomy, a kneecap.

Why just a kneecap?

If I ever go missing, please do not go through my browser history. My thought process when it came to kneecap was maybe that was the hardest part of the body to burn, regardless of there not being burnt remnants.

So, what did I do? Casually typed, 'the hardest bone in the body to burn.' Fun fact, it takes the human body 3-4 hours to burn into 3-9 pounds of ash. That's 1.3-4.0Kg. Just in case you're into that.

Okay, I'm getting back to the point of all of this. The authorities believed that the kneecap was Debra's, but they didn't have DNA proof to back it. Regardless, they gave the kneecap to the family to burry so they could have some closure. That is the saddest fucking thing. They gave this grieving family a portion of what they believed to be their daughter.

Bright side? With everyone's fascination with true-crime these days, specifically the influence of the Ted Bundy documentary on Nextflix and Zac Efron movie, authorities reopened the case. By opening the case back up, they were able to retest the DNA of the kneecap and were able to confirm it as Debra Kent's. That was only in 2015. So, way to go, guys!

Side Note: check out the Ted Bundy documentary if you haven't already.

The only other thing I found on this case was that she was kidnapped walking home after a school play. Even more, messed up, the house was only 500 feet from where she was abducted.

Okay, so why did Ted Bundy choose this house to murder Debra? Well, there are rumors that he was involved in the occult. Honestly, I think it could be possible, and I will tell you why.

Bundy loved to make the police run around in circles, but I did find a common phrase in his interviews. He always mentioned something about 'the entity.' Sure, this could be mental illness, there are a few articles that discuss this, but one interview made me think it was something more. In the interview, 'In His Own Words,' Bundy and Detective Bob Keppel discuss a few of Bundy's murders, days before his execution. Keppel was the detective during the majority of the Bundy case, and he mentioned movement, under the skin of Bundy's face whenever he would go into one of his traces. Bundy often referred to going into trances before he would murder someone.

I think there could be something to that.

Think about it. Bundy repeatedly mentioned this 'entity'; there was movement under his skin when he would go in and out of trances, the murders are incredibly gruesome, and this was the time when Satanism was trending.

With the Sabrina remake being so popular, will we re-enter satanic panic, or is the world too desensitized for that?

Anyway, I see where Zak Bagans' theory that Bundy brought Kent to that house for a ritual is possible. Bagans also mention that Bundy probably murdered her to feed the entity within him. Again, logical. Bundy explained his choosing process for his victims, some were yes's and some, no's. He even mentioned in an interview that he would fight with himself if he didn't want to kill. Sure, that could be a personality disorder, but it could also be possession.

Since I am just throwing stuff out there, what if the murders were to feed the entity? What if Bundy made a deal with something?

Hear me out. Bundy was often referred to as an outcast in high school. Classmates of his would say that Bundy tried hard to be on top, but he simply wasn't there. Post high school, he was well-liked, attractive, and got what he wanted. Was that all a trade? Popularity for the murders? I'm just saying, it looks like his life took a turn after high school, but I could be reading way too far into this. I know my life took a hard turn after high school.

The last thing I will mention is Bundy's eyes. Those who were fortunate enough to escape Bundy unharmed always mention his eyes, the evil behind them. That could be because they weren't looking into the eyes of Ted Bundy, but something much darker.

I might go more in-depth on the 'entity' inside of Ted Bundy later, this is just a taste of the madness.

Okay, I'm finished; on to the house itself.

Let's start with telling you what I did find; I found a few pictures of the house/ neighborhood, I found articles on satanism in Utah, and I found the story with Zak Bagans. Other than that, nothing. Unfortunately, that leads me to doubt this story because the only information I could find was from that episode. However, obsessed with occult stories, I continued my research.

The house is still a satanic hotspot, and new evidence of rituals are found there nightly. People have been pushed downstairs at this location, scratched, and reports of shadow-people. Along with candles, bones, and herbs, toys litter the floor of the house. Children are known to haunt the house, and those tokens are for them.

The entire inside of the house contains years of graffiti; one of the round rooms, known to be used for rituals, has symbols painted in glow-in-the-dark paint. Curious about what some of the symbols mean? I'll tell you. Many of them are used to summon specific demons, think of them as demonic calling cards. A few of these demons are The Lord of Chaos, The Horned God, Dagon, and Anubus (at least according to Bagans).

With that being said, it seems like there were a bunch of different kinds of witches practicing here. The Horned God is found in the Wiccan religion. This could be why this house is under the umbrella term 'ritual.'

Other than that, the house is merely seen as a portal to hell. You know, super casual, next door is the portal to hell.

Hotspots in the house besides everywhere? There is a little cubby under the stairs that has activity. The other location is the room that Debra Kent was believed to have been kept. Makes sense; there were a lot of suppressed emotions in that room, and cubbies under the stairs are just plain creepy. The house didn't exactly look like Harry Potter lived there, just saying.

That's it.

It's a creepy cult-house that Ted Bundy murdered Debra Kent in. As far as I could tell, the house is still standing if you dare to visit it. I would say I am okay, but I did just get back from the 7 Gates of Hell in Illinois, so who knows.

I hope you enjoyed this one, and if you have anything to add, please let me know.
