The Great Gnome Expedition of Cornfield Jesus

Updated: Jan 20, 2021

Welcome back, everyone. I apologize for this story going up so late but with The Raven podcast finally up and running; I've been a little strapped for time.

This will be episode 4 for the podcast aaaaand we went ghost hunting!. So, on a Saturday that I can't remember the date at the moment we headed out with a couple of friends of ours to the middle of nowhere at midnight in search of ghosts.

With that being said, grab your coffee, and let's get right into it.

Nestled in the forests of Franklin county, Missouri, near Washington, there is a hunted bridge, and let me tell you, it is creepy as fuck. There's a lot of backroads to take and if you haven't driven Missouri backroads you are in for a treat. Did I mention the place is surrounded by cornfields? As we know, nothing good happens in the cornfields.

( Heading out on our adventure)

The original bridge was built in 1908 to allow passage over the Boeuf creek roughly 37-feet below. Unfortunately, the bridge was demolished in the early 2000 and a less-than-beautiful concrete slab replaced the intricate covered bridge.

There are only two confirmed deaths at the bridge, but legend has it there were many more.

The first death was Patrick Kinneson on August 23, 1987. During our investigation, my friend told me that their family knew Patrick's- small world. Oh yeah, Rachel ( I guess I can namedrop, I highly doubt they will ever read this), grew up in this area, and would hang out at the bridge in high school because why the fuck not.

Anyway, Patrick was at a party near the bridge and had been drinking. During the party, someone's car got stuck in the cornfield (we almost did too!) and everyone went to help the guy out. Patrick stayed behind, however, and rumor has it that he climbed to the top of the bridge and fell, some say he jumped. No one knows why he did this or if it was an accident. Patrick was on painkillers at the time for a hip injury and you aren't supposed to mix them with alcohol. Regardless, Patrick's body was found later that night, crumpled atop some rocks 37-feet below.

The second death was Stephen Cooksey, May 9, 2005. Stephen was involved in a drug deal gone bad was shot multiple times before his attacker fled the scene.

Though those are the only confirmed deaths, locals say that the bridge was originally used for lynchings in the 1800s. In the podcast, we discuss the possibility of this along with Missouri's raciest past- check it out to hear our discussion.

Legend also has it that a little fell through a hole in the original bridge. I couldn't find anything else on this but we did run around the bridge screaming, "Little boy?". I think all the pollen got to us at that point. No joke, we were in a pollen storm; it literally looked like it was snowing on camera.

Now on to some spooky stuff.

The area is known for ghost dogs, demon dogs, gnomes, and trolls- yup, it has it all.

I couldn't find anything else on the ghost dogs but the demon dogs have glowing green eyes and three legs. I'm not quite sure if there are multiple with only three legs or just one. Regardless, to summon the beast you have to chant "demon dog" three times. Unfortunately, this didn't work for us. We did see a dog near the bridge but it definitely was real and had all of its legs.

On to the trolls.

All I could find was the forest is home to trolls- that's it.

The bridge also has a gnome.

This dude only comes out on Friday the 13th and has glowing red eyes. That's all I found. On Friday the 13th people see a stoned gnome running around. We tried to contact the gnome regardless of if they were in season.

People report having car trouble when crossing the bridge, others see phantom cars. I have to admit, it does sound like cars are speeding at you, it's pretty creepy. I don't know if the highway somehow echos through the corn but we only saw one car on our little trip and the bridge is surrounded by forests and corn, no light pollution out there.

(Full moon from the bridge)

People have also reported seeing orbs and energy balls but all we caught on camera was pollen.

Of course, there is always someone who says the area has satanic ties. I found in one article that mutilated animals were found near the bridge. Honestly, this was probably a coyote or something, I mean it is the middle of nowhere.

(One of the symbols we found on the bridge)

That about wraps up this story. If you want to see footage from a little adventure check out our Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/theraven_podcast/

We are planning another investigation this Friday but we still don't know where we are going- suggestions?

Until next time,
